Correspondence
E-mail received from Paula Bond of Macmillan Cancer Support to see if we would like to be involved with Macmillan In Every Community (MIEC) which is about helping to extend the range of volunteering Macmillan provided in the community. Each MIEC would have a Lead Volunteer who would recruit and support a small group of volunteers – up to about 10. All MIEC projects would receive support from Macmillan through training, grants covering things such as volunteer’s expenses and access to ongoing support. Members were interested to know more about MIEC and Rowland has invited Paula to come along to our April meeting to talk to us.
Letter received from Toby Fielder the Somerset Fundraising Manager for Macmillan enclosing a leaflet about how we might get involved with the Somerset Macmillan Centenary Celebration 2011. Macmillan was founded by Douglas Macmillan in 1911; Geoff informed us that his family had built a house at Castle Cary for him. Rowland has e-mailed Toby to see if he could liaise with Paula Bond and come along to our April meeting.
During discussion members expressed their appreciation of Macmillan’s support to patients, families & carers.
E-mail received from Nicola Gardiner of Beating Bowel Cancer UK with an invitation to patients, their families and carers to attend a Beyond Bowel Cancer Event on Saturday 2nd April 2011 from 9.30am to 4.30pm at the Royal College of Physicians, Regents Park, London NW1. Pre-registration is required and there is a £5 registration fee however lunch and refreshments are included. Information leaflets with details of the days events were handed to members.
