‘Colon-aid’ the Yeovil District Bowel Cancer Support Group
“Colon-aid” Fourth Annual Report August 2009 to July 2010
This report reviews the fourth year of our activities.
37th meeting on the 21 August 2009 we celebrated our 3rd anniversary with cake and refreshments. It was proposed and unanimously agreed that Rowland continued in his role of Chair and Webmaster. Stan presented a cheque for £400 to Carol Taylor and Lynn Tanswell of St Margaret’s Hospice, Yeovil; and posted cheques to Bowel Cancer UK for £200; Lynn’s Bowel Cancer Charity for £100 and Beating Bowel Cancer for £100.
38th meeting on the 18th September 2009 Rowland welcomed members to the meeting and with sadness advised members of the passing of Irene Boyd at St Margaret’s Hospice, Yeovil on Sunday 6th September 2009 the Funeral Service was held at Yeovil Crematorium on Friday 11th September 2009. Irene appreciated the card and visits by members.
39th meeting on the 16th October 2009 Stan and Roger reported back on ASWCS User Involvement Group meetings they attended with Heather.
40th meeting on the 20th November 2009 our guest speaker was Andrea Ledger a Community Fund Raiser for St Margaret’s Hospice who gave us a very comprehensive presentation covering the history and services provided by the hospice.
41st meeting on the 18th December 2009 we enjoyed a Christmas Party and Raffle that raised £30 for our Raffle Fund. We also did a Cancer Myths Quiz and Sylvia was the highest scorer with 11 out of 15 questions correct.
42nd meeting on the 15th January 2010 Julie advised members of the appointment of a new Colorectal Consultant Andrew Alison at YDH. We discussed irrigation during our Open Forum session.
43rd meeting on the 19th February 2010 we discussed arrangements for our annual dinner at Mulberrys, Union Street, Yeovil and the Bowel Cancer Awareness Day to be held in April.
