Bowel Cancer Awareness Month April 2010 Julie has arranged for a BCA Afternoon at YDH in the main entrance area on Thursday 22 April 2010 from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. As usual Colon-aid will be supporting the event and there will be a display stand with information posters and leaflets relating to bowel cancer and our support group. Cream Tea Afternoon 2010 Stan & Hazel confirmed the date for this year’s event as Saturday 12th June 2010. The same format as last year is proposed with a cake stall, garden produce, plants, cards, clothes rack and raffle of donated prizes. Last year visitor numbers were about the most that could be coped with by the hard working band people serving refreshments and doing the washing up and it was standing room only some of the time. In view of this wider publicity of the event is probably not necessary; local posters and word of mouth should prove to be adequate. It was agreed that we should identify tasks that would be required and get members to volunteer to undertake them. The refreshment stand has the highest workload and 2 teams of 3 would probably be the best option to provide for breaks during the afternoon. Help is also required with collecting up the dirty plates, cups & saucers and returning them to the kitchen; the raffle; cake stand; collecting the money for the teas; etc. We will need around 12 volunteers to cover these tasks and this will be followed up at our May meeting. Raffle Fund Balance The balance of our raffle fund was £222.72 and with today’s £38 rises to £260.72 and following the refund to Rowland of £105.14 reduces to £155.58. ASWCS Meetings Heather gave a very comprehensive summary of the ASWCS Network User Involvement Group meeting held on the 24th February 2010 and the Colorectal Site Specific Group meeting held on the 10th March 2010. Extracts from these meetings have been included in these minutes. Heather and Stan expressed reservations about the effectiveness of their attendance at these meetings in relation to their time and effort and questioned whether their attendance was worthwhile. They requested Rowland to contact Nader Francis to see if a meeting could be arranged to discuss the role of User Representative involvement in the CRC SSG and in relation to YDH Colorectal patients. We had a discussion about the inaccuracy of data presented in the National Bowel Cancer Audit Programme Report. The ASWCS notes of the meeting noted a significant lack of administration staff.
