It was being proposed that treatments of this type be provided directly from the Colorectal/Stoma Care Department. All members agreed that this would be of great benefit to patients. Julie was reviewing the content of Patient Diaries and invited members to submit their ideas for improving the information provided to new patients. Non-cancer Related Stoma Patients Julie asked members for their views on patients with non-cancer related stomas attending some of our meetings as at present there was no local support group for them. It was suggested that the first part of such meetings would include everyone and then split up with those having stomas going to a separate room. This ‘stoma group’ could then cover issues specific to them with possible attendance by stoma care product suppliers. There was support for this approach with the hope that this could eventually lead to formation of a new support group. Julie and Rowland will need to look at proposed dates, number of patients/carers expected and availability of a room at the hospice. An alternative suggestion was to get these patients to attend an exploratory meeting to get their views on the sort of group they wanted in much the same way that our initial members attended an exploratory meeting. Date and Time for Next Meeting The next meeting will be on Friday 16 October 2009 from 2.00pm-4.00pm at St Margaret’s Hospice, Yeovil. Sue and Maureen will not be attending due to prior commitments. Please notify apologies for absence if you cannot attend to the Colorectal/Stoma Care Department, Level 4, Yeovil District Hospital, Higher Kingston, YEOVIL BA21 4AT in writing or alternatively by telephone on 01935 384352 or to Rowland on 01935 424771.
