Cream Tea Donations Rowland passed around copies of the “presentation cheques” of £400 to St Margaret’s Hospice (presented with the real cheque at the start of the party), £200 to Bowel Cancer UK, and £100 each to Lynn’s Bowel Cancer Charity and Beating Bowel Cancer. Stan will send off the cheques to the other three recipients. Open Forum Not held at this meeting as Rowland had promised Ann we would not talk about bowels today as it was party time. Any Other Business Raffle Fund balance The balance of our Raffle Fund was £99.19 and with the £26 raised today the new balance is £125.19. Macmillan Unit Rowland outlined proposed changes to the unit to provide more space and a better environment for staff and patients. It was hoped that work would start next year. Rowland passed on a message from the recently appointed Macmillan Unit Volunteer Co-ordinator about a requirement for more volunteers at the unit for regular rota duties and occasional duties to cover leave and sickness absence. Volunteers need to be at least two years past treatment and fit enough to cope with the walking between departments located some distance from the unit. Duties involve greeting patients and carers; offering refreshments; taking blood samples to the lab; collecting ‘chemo’ from the pharmacy; taking and collecting non-chemo prescriptions to the pharmacy; taking orders for lunch and collecting them from the kitchen and attending to the needs of patients, carers and staff. Colorectal SSG on 14th September 2009 Stan and Heather would be attending the next SSG meeting and asked members if they had any topics they wanted raised at the meeting. Rowland raised an issue about the suitability of disabled toilets throughout the ASWCS area for use by people with stomas. Particular issues were hand basins within the cubicle, seats that could be raised, adequate lighting and clothes hooks. Ann said she would follow up disabled toilet issues at YDH. Chair and Web Master The position of Chair and Web Master is subject to annual review and the opportunity of taking on the role was open. Geoff proposed that Rowland continued the role this was seconded and carried by show of hands. Back Next Page
