“Colon-aid” Second Annual Report August 2007 to July 2008
This report reviews the second year of our groups activities. At our 13th meeting on the 17th August 2007 we celebrated our 1st anniversary with cake and refreshments. It was proposed and unanimously agreed that Rowland continued in his role of Chair and Webmaster. At our 14th meeting on the 21st September 2007 Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr Steve Gore gave a presentation covering the role of colonoscopy in diagnosis and follow up of bowel cancer. He also covered the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. At our 15th meeting on the 19th October 2007 Consultant Radiologist Dr Jeremy Hacking gave a presentation on the role of Radiology in the diagnosis and follow up of colorectal Cancer. At our 16th meeting on the 9th November 2007 we reviewed the presentations given by Steve Gore and Jeremy Hacking. Maggie provided further insight and answered questions raised by members. Our 17th meeting on the 21st December 2007 attracted 20 members despite worsening fog conditions. We enjoyed a Christmas Party and Raffle that raised £40.46p for our Raffle Fund that covers operating costs. At our 18th meeting on the 25th January 2008 Alison Hodgson a physiotherapist at St Margaret’s Hospice gave a presentation covering the use of acupuncture in pain relief and outlined her work with Debra in relation to peripheral neuropathy. At our 19th meeting on the 15th February 2008 we had an extended Open Forum session covering a range of topics including the differences between patient and carer perspectives of the patient journey. Patients had a tendency to minimise their experiences and consider other patient’s journeys as being more difficult than theirs. Whereas carers had a more realistic view and say “Hang on! It wasn’t quite like that.” At our 20th meeting on the 28th March 2008 we discussed arrangements for a Social Evening and the Bowel Cancer Awareness Day to be held in April. BackHome Next Page
