Future Guest Speakers
Jim asked whether we had a date for the Macmillan Bereavement workshop and Rowland replied that a date had not yet been arranged. This would be a one day workshop and Thursdays in February and March 2008 were being considered dependent on availability of the Macmillan Trainer and the Hospice Training Room.
Debra had asked if we could get a speaker to cover peripheral neuropathy.
Rowland had so far failed to get a dietician to speak to us.
Arrangements for future guest speakers will be added to the agenda for the January 2008 meeting.
CAFÉ (Cancer Aid For Everyone)
Rowland advised that the charity Somerset Cancer Care had now become a division of St Margaret’s Hospice and the Western Gazette carried a piece stating that volunteers were urgently needed for a new cancer support group in Yeovil. They were looking for premises and volunteers in Yeovil for CAFÉ an informal weekly drop-in centre for anyone whose life had been affected by cancer. Volunteers will receive specialised professional training to give them the skills and knowledge to support cancer patients effectively. Once trained, volunteers can expect to work one morning or afternoon per fortnight in the Yeovil area. If members are interested in becoming volunteers they can call Fiona Campbell on 01823 433510, Rowland will contact her to advise her of the existence of our group.
Raffle/Refreshment Money
Refreshment donations today raised £15 20p this was added to the £14 05p raised on the 17th November 2006 making a total of £29 25p that was passed to St Margaret’s as Gift Aid.
With the absence of Stan and Hazel we did not hold a raffle at this meeting and the donated prizes have been held over for the December meeting. The group wished Hazel a speedy recovery with her new knee and looked forward to seeing her at the December “Party” meeting.
